Sometimes we educators do not want to accept the reality that education is not free of politics. Word to the wise, education is one of the most politicized aspects of our lives. We change our school programs depending on who is controlling the local school board, who is influenced by whoever sits on the House or the Senate. Because of this phenomenon, I believe teachers need to know where they stand regarding equity and social justice issues that affect our practice and our goals. We also have to be politically savvy, if we want ALL of our students to achieve academic success.
